Eight

Today was Wensday the eighth day. The plan wasn't as exciting as yesterday. We went to school normally, and then had two hours with Herr and Frau, going over vocab and practicing our skits. We got our schedule- today was Americans only in our own classes.

First, we had a "drama" lesson. This was the weirdest thing ever. "Drama" in Germany has more emphasis on movement than the spoken word, so we spent fourty-five minutes walking around a small room to a tempo. It was more than just that, as the music was totally wierdo and the teacher was CRAZY and also really sweaty. It was just a really cool lesson, but as we say auf Deutsch, "total verruckt". At the end, he had us split into groups of half, normal, and double tempos and we were pertending we had a rope attached to a body part like the nose of arm or something and were being dragged. I think some people took videos (I didn't have my camera today), so I can illustrate this better later).

After that, we had a wonderful history lesson if by wonderful you mean at a fifth grade level. It was about medieval cities in Germany, but the teacher only was pointing out the City Hall, the well, the walls, the castle, and the people houses. The group was really restless, and when she asked us to pull out some colored pencils and color in the City Hall, the well, the walls, the castle, and the people houses, we were all like "What?".

Afterwards we went to the place where our American evening is. It's not that bad off- they have a small rack-mount Soundcraft mixer, a CD and Cassette player, a power amp, and a pair of mains. The acoustics in the room are really nice, so we don't have to mic everything. I'm glad I brought a mic, but I need another and a pair of acive monitors. I just don't know the words in German, so I hope we're able to figure something out.

All the acts are going well. I have to finish writing a text for the powerpoint and practice a bit more with nick, but we spent the afternoon working on those things. We went over to Nick's partner's house and played "Martha My Dear" a few times, and then sat around and talked while watching soccer. It was a really cool game- Turkey vs. Switzerland. The two teams had a big fistfight in the world cup, so if anything happened, they would both be kicked out of the league. It was also raining, and I think there was about a half-inch of water over the whole field. Made for an interesting game.

Tommrow evening should be wonderfully amazing (ha!). I think we're practicing the whole day, so we won't have school.

Pictures later,
Robert

Hey! What about chemistry? Studie der Physik? Wissenschaft von Chemie? I didn't pay good money for you guys to hang out in coffee shops with dead philosophers; get to class!!!

On the DVD situation, if you are back in one of those electronic shops see how much a compact DVD player costs. If you can find a decent one in the $100 range that you can carry home that might be the best solution. It doesn't have to be the super-quality type like our main player. Especially with Pearce liking to watch all kinds of movies it would be easier just to have a European player. Be sure it has an output that works with our TVs though.

Seiler - get some sleep!

Mom says, "that describes every drama class ever taught since the time of the ancient Greeks"!

Ok, Seiler stays up later than I do. . . not always a good thing, but it is summer vacation. Thanks for keeping up the great blogging. I hope you find all the electronic equipment you need. . .I agree with Steve that you'd better buy a euro DVD player. . . maybe at the giant best buy like store. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
