Seventeen

Friday, day seventeen.

We didn't go to school today, but were picked up by parents and taken to the "Kiekeberg-Musuem". I left at 8:30, which was weird, as there was no one else in the house (only Americans went). Ann's "Gastmutter" picked up me and Laurie and drove us to the museum. It wasn't far.

There, we met the group and saw our first highlight of the day: a sheep in a pen near the door. Then, we waited for twenty minutes, as it wasn't open yet. Finally, we were let in and headed for the bakery. The museum is designed to allow people to look back into the middle ages. Our first activity was to cook pretzels in a very modern kitchen. It was actually a lot of fun- I have some interesting pictures. The bread was only yeast, flour, and salt. The batch we made was enough for everyone to make three small pretzels or rolls or whatever. The dough got rolled and shaped, and then we left.

Then we walked around and looked at old houses that had 100% authentic medieval electric wire hanging out of the ceiling and then we looked at some pigs. The pigs weren't cute pink pigs, but rather some kind of wild boar-beasts that were utterly disgusting. Then we looked at some houses, and some sheep. And then some houses and some kind of bird. We also saw them building a 100% authentic medieval windmill with a big crane and a truck.

Did I mention that Kiekeberg was the highlight of my trip? I loved it so much, I almost fell asleep on my feet. I guess it was cool seeing one medieval house, but the 7th in a row was more than a bit too much.

After the tour, the group went back to the bakery and we ate our pretzels.

Finally, we left with parents to go home. I waited around a while with nothing to do, and then me and max headed to the beach club to watch some soccer. It started raining when we got there, so we went to a bar/restaurant instead. It was a lot of fun, we just sat around and talked.

It was like 11:00 when we got home, so I went straight to bed.

Well Blogbert, Not everyone is cut out for the farm. Grandpa Donald shared your sentiments and left at the first opportunity. There is a mighty cute photo of Sara K. with her pretzel dough on the gapp website. Exceedingly cute.
Hopefully you had a good weekend.

Robert, you should probably complain some more. If you do this your blog will become much more pleasant and happy.

On a different note, you should come here to Wisconsin with us (right now).

Yo, Rob,
it would be awesome if you were here in WI with us -- I'm trying to imagine how you would blog this trip. I know how you feel about some of those living history sites; it's hard to restore a village, though, and we visual learners do benefit from some of it. I hope you got the pretzel dough recipe for your Dad -- that sounded like the best part. I'd like to see a wild boar, myself, and my friend Anne will be sorry you didn't say what kind of bird, but I did laugh aloud at your pig descriptions. We're going camping for a few days, and will be looking forward to more Brown Cow when we return. Having a wonderful time. Wish you were here. But I am glad you're there and having an interesting adventure. Aunt Amy

I fear we have read the last Brown Cow until Robert gets home ;-( He probably doesn't have access to a computer in the last days of traveling.
